International Women’s Day at LOL

8th March is International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating women’s social, cultural and political achievements while also marking a call to accelerate equality. Here at Levenshulme Old Library we’re staging not one but THREE very special events to help you get involved, whatever your age, ability, budget or interests.

LOL Women – 7pm, Tuesday 8th March at Levenshulme Old Library
A spoken word event featuring performances from 10 local female word artists, some of whom are published authors with years of experience and others who’ll be performing for the first time. Lisa O’Hare will be compering this evening of local poets and storytellers. Expect a range of styles, punctuated with chances to chat and network with performers and audience alike. Tickets are available to all (14+ years) here.

IWD Creative Drop-In – 4pm-7pm, Saturday 12th March at Levenshulme Old Library
On the weekend after IWD, bring the kids (or just yourself!) down to Levenshulme Old Library to get creative! We will be making banners with Beth Powell from Creative City, writing poetry and making zines with Levenshulme Old Library’s very own Laura Deane. You can contribute to our community banner and make your own work that you can take home or donate for exhibition! No booking required – open to all ages and abilities and completely FREE.

IWDance – 7pm, Saturday 12th March at The Gherkin
And if you still have the energy after all of that creativity, we are running a club night in conjunction with the much-loved Gherkin with an all-female DJ line-up, playing the best tunes by women, at your (other) favourite Levenshulme venue. Tickets available here.

All proceeds from our IWD events will go to Levenshulme Old Library and The Pankhurst Trust.
