We’re delighted to once again be part of Manchester City of Literature’s Festival of Libraries – the annual celebration of libraries and library-inspired spaces across Greater Manchester.
Running from 10-14 June, Festival of Libraries brings together events in libraries, archives, cultural venues and community spaces across the region. This year’s festival features more than 120 events and activities, celebrating the role libraries play as places of creativity, learning, conversation and community.
Although Levenshulme Old Library is no longer a library in the traditional sense, we’re delighted to remain part of that wider story. Since local people came together to save the building, we’ve worked to create a community-led arts centre that continues the building’s original purpose – bringing people together through culture, ideas and creativity.
This year’s Festival of Libraries programme at Levenshulme Old Library includes four free events:
Comic Creativity Galore
Thursday 11 June
Join comic creator Jim Medway and Phoenix Comics for a hands-on workshop exploring comics, storytelling and illustration. Suitable for anyone interested in drawing, making comics or developing their creative skills.
Ghost Hunting
Friday 12 June
Presented by the Muslim Social Justice Initiative, this screening explores the experiences of former Palestinian prisoners and the impact of incarceration and occupation. The screening will be followed by discussion and reflection.
The Quest for Planet P
Saturday 13 June
Knotted Hawk bring their acclaimed family performance to Levenshulme. Blending theatre, movement and imagination, The Quest for Planet P is a playful adventure for audiences of all ages.
The Rising Sun
Saturday 13 June
A screening of Alyona Kaporina’s powerful documentary exploring the experiences of Ukrainian families rebuilding their lives in Manchester. Director Alyona Kaporina will join us for a discussion following the film.
All events are free to attend but booking is essential.
We’re proud that Festival of Libraries continues to recognise the important role community-led spaces like ours play in Greater Manchester’s cultural life. Whether you’re interested in comics, film, theatre or simply discovering something new, we’d love to welcome you to Levenshulme Old Library this June.
