Join us at Levenshulme Old Library for a special evening presented by Hannah Spencer, bringing together film, literature, poetry and food to celebrate Palestinian culture and hear stories of resilience, memory and everyday life.
This event is centred around a screening of Three Minute Warning, followed by a live Q&A with director Iqbal Mohammed.
Set in Palestine, Three Minute Warning follows Mariam, a 14-year-old girl caring for her disabled mother, when a ‘knock-on-roof’ bomb is dropped on their building, giving them just three minutes to escape before the building is destroyed. The film takes a situation often seen from a distance and brings it inside one home, focusing on the fear, urgency and impossible choices faced by civilians.
We’ll also hear readings from Voices of Resistance, Comma Press’s collection of first-hand diaries by four Gazan women documenting life under bombardment. Comma Press will be joining us with a bookstall, where copies of Voices of Resistance and other titles will be available throughout the evening.
The night concludes with a bilingual poetry performance from Reem Hamadaqa and Amna Shabana, weaving Arabic and English together alongside projected artwork.
We’re delighted to be serving Palestinian food from Dalloul al-Neder and his brothers, former chefs at the Royal Grill House on Kingsway in Levenshulme, with a selection of Palestinian cuisine, including gluten-free and vegan options.
You’ll also have a final opportunity to view and purchase artworks from Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free, our exhibition from last year showcasing contemporary Palestinian comic book artists with all works available in return for donations.
