Kahaaniya: Stories, songs & play for South Asian mums and their little ones

This autumn we’re very excited to be launching Kahaaniya, a brand new weekly drop-in at Levenshulme Old Library for South Asian women and their little ones aged 0-4.

Each Tuesday morning, our main space will be filled with the sounds of stories and songs shared between mums, toddlers and babies. The sessions will bring together storytelling, crafts, play and language in a relaxed, women-only setting – a space for connection, imagination and community.

The name Kahaaniya means stories in Urdu and Hindi, and that’s exactly what the project celebrates: the stories, voices and traditions that shape our neighbourhood. From tales in Urdu and Gujarati to crafts inspired by local heritage, every week offers a new way to share creativity and culture between generations.

Kahaaniya was developed in response to conversations with local South Asian mums who told us they wanted more spaces where they could meet, create and connect safely with their children, and is one of the many free family activities we’re introducing to make the Old Library a welcoming, creative home for all the communities of Levenshulme.

The sessions are free, drop-in, and for South Asian women with babies and toddlers. Refreshments are provided and no booking is needed.

Kahaaniya is supported by We Love Manchester as part of their support for projects strengthening communities across the city.

Join us each Tuesday (term time only!) at Levenshulme Old Library – a space where stories grow, friendships form, and the next generation of storytellers begin.
