Levenshulme Old Library

Halloween at Levenshulme Old Library

The nights are drawing in, the leaves are curling brown at the edges, and something wickedly fun is afoot at Levenshulme Old Library.

This October we invite you to cross our threshold for a mini-season celebrating all things eerie, silly and seasonal. Expect little monsters whirling at our kids’ disco, pens scratching in shadowy corners at our writing workshops, and voices raised for Blether. It’s a time for costumes, cackles and just the right amount of spook – all conjured up here in the heart of Levy.

Harvest Horror: A Folk Horror Writing Workshop

Strange lights over the fields, the hush of something ancient in the hedgerows, the feeling that the harvest demands more than toil alone… Step into the uncanny world of folk horror with Tor Bellamy, who will lead you through the crooked paths of this chilling tradition.

Expect inspiration from folklore, myth and the dark side of the rural imagination. Whether you’re new to writing or already dabble in the darker arts, this workshop will give you tools, prompts and a suitably sinister harvest to draw from.

Spooky Silent Disco

Imagine the library turned into a midnight ballroom – just without the actual midnight, because bedtime still wins.

Each disco-goer gets their own set of silent disco headphones, two spooky channels queued up, and a chance to dance like nobody’s watching.

Bring your best costume, super-scary or ultra-silly – we love elf ears, witch hats, and glow-in-the-dark capes.

Vampires: A Writing Workshop

The vampire has stalked through our imaginations for centuries, from the shadowy figure at the end of the lane to the cape-swirling count in the castle. In this workshop, award-winning writer Gaynor Jones invites you to sink your teeth into the lore, the tropes and the irresistible appeal of these creatures of the night.

Expect prompts, discussion, and plenty of bloodthirsty inspiration.

Blether: Halloween Special

Blether is Levenshulme Old Library’s semi-regular night of storytelling, cabaret and community – a warm, slightly uncanny space where poetry, performance and playful improvisation mingle.

For Spooky Samhain Blether, expect dimly lit tales, eerie folklore and voices that wander between the silly and the spine-tingling. Whether you want to share a story, a poem or simply sit back and listen, Blether is a night built on connection – the kind that makes the uncanny feel welcoming.
