Levenshulme Old Library

Norman Foster Lifetime Achievement Award

Here’s something exciting. Lord Norman Foster recently received the Manchester Society of Architects’ Lifetime Achievement Award, first awarded to him in 2019.

Born in Levenshulme, Foster has often spoken about how the architecture of Manchester – including buildings like our own – helped shape his early interest in design. This award, one of the few he hadn’t already received, recognises a lifetime of visionary architectural work and his enduring connection to the city where it all began.

And yes that’s everyone’s favourite Carnegie Library building etched onto the award box! It means a lot to see Levenshulme Old Library quietly travelling with this recognition back to Norman Foster. From Cromwell Grove to countless global landmarks – not bad company.
