“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.” – Herman Melville

The Voices of the People is a free writing workshop themed around community.

From Covid-19 to the cost of living crisis, the past few years have seen an increase in people engaging with the places where they live, the people who live there and the communities they form.

The Voices of the People is part of Levolution!, our programme of events and activities marking 10 years since the local community here in Levenshulme came together to stage a series of protests against austerity measures in the area.

This workshop will explore the themes of place, community and the importance of using the written word to make your voice heard. You’ll be be led by Marie Crook, a writer based in Levenshulme whose work has been published in The Real Story and The Caterpillar among others and she has performed at venues including Manchester Central Library.

The workshop is free and open to anyone, including all writing levels and all backgrounds.

Free, but booking is essential: Book your ticket here.
