This spring two local artists, Ciara Leeming and our very own Laura Deane, have been visiting Levenshulme Market and running a series of pop-up self portrait workshops.

This is part of A Portrait of Levenshulme, a joint project which has seen the pair inviting the local community to reflect on what makes our neighbourhood special via the medium of self-portraits, whether that be photographs, drawings, collages, writing or other forms.

So far they have gathered hundreds of these portraits, all of which will be on display here at Levenshulme Old Library.

The project has been funded by Arts Council England via the Let’s Create Jubilee Fund which helps communities mark the 70 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II. With residents young and old participating in the project, the exhibition will celebrate the warmth and resilience of the local community which has been a hallmark of Levy for the past seven decades. The images you’ll find will reflect an incredibly diverse make-up of locals, all of whom work together to create the cohesive and welcoming Levenshulme community we all know and love.
